Hey,
So on Sunday I shot my residential interior. Surprisingly I ended up liking my shot. Normally I’m not known for shooting good interiors. But I surprised myself. So this is one part of a two part assignment. The vignette/detail interior shot, well I know I did horrible on that. That’s a fail, but was limited by what I had to create it.
Today is my last day of class before my reading week starts. I’m excited to be able to start thinking about my holiday and getting to work with my internships more and to be able to work on my portfolio and upcoming photo competitions which I’m am seriously getting worried about for lack of ideas. Still having a creative block. Technical wise I can still shoot but my creative side is seriously lacking. Hopefully these two weeks will help me to think clearly and come up with some concept work, or series work.

Hey,
These are a few photos I took over the winter holidays. I love winter, and skiing and being outside in the cold. I am disappointed in the winter we’re having. The snow comes during the night and then leaves by the end of the day. Its rather disappointing. Hoping we get lots of snow!!! These pictures are landscapes that I enjoy doing and hope that I can we get more snow so I can continue to work on my landscape work in the winter. Hoping to add to it!

Hey,
So on monday I was working on my business portrait, yes kinda last minute since it was due on tuesday, but it was the only day I could do it. This is a friend of the family who is a videographer. He works on commercial sets. This is him with his HD video camera set up and monitor. The downside to this project was the fact that we could only do it monday and it had to be in his storage room. Sadly its a small room filled with boxes and not the most flattering area to work in. He had just got back from shooting in Quebec so he was also bringing everything back into the studio. But we made due, trying to clean up as best as possible. He understood my need for taking time and was willing to give me the time I needed to try and fix things up, but there is still only so much one can do. But we had a great talk and tech talk which was enjoyable, and also this lead to be being invited onto set with him in the future. The way I work is apparently very similar to how he works so he hopes to have me on set in the future! :D Yay!!

A time to be happy, a time to be sad.

Hey,

Things have been crazy it feels like lately. Blogging has never really been my thing so please be patient.

Recently I have confirmed both my internships that I am required to do to graduate. One is with a corporate event photographer the other with a wedding/commercial photographer. Both I’m very excited to be following and learning from.

Last night I had my first taste of being an assistant/runner. We were at the Garrison Ball. There were around 800 guests. We helped set up the booth where we were taking photos of the guests. Guests would line up to have there photo’s taken. What was interesting was the idea that the planners came up with. Apparently back in the 1700’s the man would sit in the chair and the lady would stand beside. So to honor tradition, that’s what we did. Couples did have the option to stand or do otherwise, but it was an interesting take on night and made it memorable. Each couple received one photo which we printed on site and put into there sleeves. We were constantly running memory cards back and forth, hence why I was a runner. The room was so full that going from one room to the next was a giant maze that was very entertaining to try and find your way through. But all in all I found the night to be a great learning experience. One thing that surprised me was the amount of changes that were made to where the photographer would be, what they would be doing, and where we would be displaying the prints.

My second internship starts this coming Thursday. I’m very excited to be learning some of the software that the photographer wants me to learn how to use. It will be a great learning curve. Can’t wait!!

But until then I have much work to be done. I have a business portrait to photograph tomorrow with a friend who shoots commercials. So I’ll be going to his storage room and photographing him with his equipment. Excited. Though lately my creativity seems to be diminishing, hopefully I can find a shoot to get creative on and get back into the swing of things. Thanks

Hey,
Decided to upload a picture I’ve been working on for a long time. Its a panoramic of the lake near where I live. Its an HDR shot, there are around 5-7 images combined in this shot to give it a dark moody feeling. My passion has always been in landscapes. Since being at school, I have started to find a passion portraiture and hope to continue with it. Sometimes its nice to go back to what started my passion. Thanks!!

The Start of Something New

Hi!

I’m new with blogging so give me a chance! I hope to enlighten you and show you my creative work. My hope is to inspire the photographer inside you.

Let me start by telling you a little bit about myself. I was raised in a small town. I’m the youngest of 3 kids, by a long shot! My brother and sister are considerably older than me, but I actually love having them older than me. I have a dog named Hershey Hugs and Kisses. He’s a chocolate brown cocker spaniel and a trouble maker.

I’ve always loved photography. I didn’t really discover I had a knack for it till I was in high school. My high school didn’t have a ton of course options, and it was way underfunded. But I wanted to take the photography course. I had never been in a darkroom and it thrilled me to be in there. I found my new home in a sense. There is nothing like taking a picture on the camera and developing the film and seeing the end result on paper. Its something you’ve created from scratch. There is nothing like it in the world.

I decided to make photography my career. I applied to Humber College, surprisingly the only photography program I applied to. I felt Humber was the best, and if I didn’t get in, I would have my backup of Business Insurance, and this wasn’t my preference. I got accepted to Humber and then my journey began! I’m now in my second and final year at Humber College. I’m loving everything I’m learning and the teachers are amazing. I can’t wait to graduate! Its trilling to think I’m on the home stretch.

That’s it for now. Pictures and other post will come! Hope you enjoy reading and following my blog!

Sincerely,

Mariah Harwood
